EDWARD GUIBARRA CAUGHT IN CARDIFF FOR CHILD SEX ABUSE IMAGES ON HACKED CAKE WEBSITE

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Cardiff, a man named Edward Guibarra, aged 64, was apprehended after authorities uncovered his involvement in viewing and possessing child sex abuse images. The incident came to light when Guibarra was caught browsing illicit content on a website originally intended for sharing baking and cooking videos, which had been illegally compromised by hackers.

According to court proceedings, the website, known as Build-A-Recipe, was designed as a platform where users could upload videos of themselves preparing their favorite cakes or meals. However, during a period of approximately 18 hours before the site administrators became aware of the breach, thousands of highly disturbing images were uploaded by unknown individuals. The site’s security measures, which recorded the IP addresses and user details of all those who accessed it, enabled police to trace the activity back to specific users.

One of the addresses identified through this investigation was located on St Isan Road in the Heath area of Cardiff. When police officers arrived at the residence in June of the previous year with a warrant, Guibarra was present. He reportedly acknowledged his involvement immediately, telling the officers, “It’s me and you will find what you are looking for on this.”

During a search of his property, Guibarra handed over a laptop computer from his bedroom. Authorities discovered on the device a total of 405 images, which included child pornography and extreme material, some of which depicted acts of bestiality. The court was also shown a particularly disturbing image that Guibarra had altered by superimposing the face of a young female acquaintance onto the body of a naked woman, raising serious concerns about his motives and mental state.

Guibarra was candid with police during questioning and pleaded guilty to 15 charges related to the possession and distribution of indecent images of children. Despite his admission, he offered no explanation for creating the manipulated image involving the young girl, which his defense lawyer, Marion Lewis, described as “perhaps a moment of madness.”

The court heard that Guibarra had been viewing such illicit images for over three years. He claimed that personal issues at home, including problems with his wife, initially led him to seek out adult pornography. Unfortunately, this exposure gradually led him to discover and become addicted to images involving children. Ms Lewis explained that Guibarra was under significant stress at the time, citing work pressures and health issues as contributing factors. However, she emphasized that he had shown genuine remorse and had sought treatment since his arrest, recognizing the harm caused to the victims.

As part of his sentence, Guibarra was ordered to complete a three-year community order that includes mandatory treatment. He was also required to pay costs of £250 and was placed on the sex offenders register for five years. Additionally, a sexual offences prevention order was imposed, restricting his future use of the internet to prevent further offending.

The presiding judge emphasized the seriousness of the crimes, stating that such offenses encourage the abuse of children by fueling demand. The judge warned Guibarra that his actions contributed to the market for such material and underscored the importance of ongoing monitoring and restrictions to protect potential victims.
