DUNDEE MAN CONVICTED FOR KICKING DOG AND CAUSING SUFFERING
A man from Dundee has been convicted of causing suffering to a dog by repeatedly kicking it, and has been fined £400 plus a £20 victim surcharge following an investigation by the Scottish SPCA.Edward Douglas, aged 64 and residing on Caird Avenue, was found guilty at Dundee Sheriff Court in December and was sentenced recently.The incident involved Hugo, an eight-year-old lurcher, who was subjected to repeated kicks, which caused him pain, fear, and distress.Douglas denied the charges in court but was found guilty after a trial.
The Scottish SPCA inspector, Robert Baldie, explained that on March 11, 2022, they received a call about a dog repeatedly kicked.
Ambulance services attended Douglas’s property on Caird Avenue, where he was seen kicking Hugo several times to contain him into a room.
When the dog managed to escape, Douglas continued kicking him, and Hugo yelped in pain.The following day, the Scottish SPCA visited the location and met Douglas, who was surprised and denied kicking the dog.
Despite his denial, witnesses from the ambulance service reported that Hugo was repeatedly kicked, suffering distress and suffering.
Douglas's partner stated that the dog had stayed at her home and would be returning there.
The Scottish SPCA law enforcement officers explained that Douglas was a suspect under the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006.
The organization expressed satisfaction that he received a fine and hope he will reconsider his ability to care for animals in the future.Robert Baldie emphasized the importance of animal welfare and expressed gladness that Douglas was held accountable for his actions.
