EDWARD CALDERBANK FROM URMSTON SENTENCED TO FOUR YEARS FOR HISTORIC CHILD SEX OFFENSES IN MANCHESTER

In a significant case that has brought justice to victims of past abuse, Edward Calderbank, a pensioner from Urmston, has been sentenced to four years in prison for a series of historic sexual offenses committed against young girls. The crimes, which spanned over a decade, involved indecent assaults and acts of indecency with children, some of whom were as young as seven years old at the time of the abuse.

Calderbank, aged 65 and residing on Jack Lane in Urmston, appeared before Minshull Street Crown Court to face the charges. He pleaded guilty to a total of 13 counts of indecent assault and four counts of indecency with a child. The court proceedings revealed that the offenses took place during the 1970s and early 1980s, a period during which Calderbank targeted three young girls.

One of the victims was subjected to prolonged abuse, starting from when she was approximately 11 years old. The abuse included not only physical assault but also the perpetrator performing sex acts in front of her, causing lasting trauma. Another girl was assaulted at a similar age, while the third victim was abused from the age of around seven, highlighting the disturbing pattern of Calderbank’s predatory behavior.

Following his guilty plea, Calderbank was sentenced to four years in prison. Additionally, he was ordered to sign the sex offender register for life, a measure intended to monitor and prevent further offenses. The court's decision underscores the severity of his crimes and the lasting impact on the victims.

Detective Constable Nicola Graham, who has been involved in the investigation, expressed her thoughts on the case. She stated, “The victims have been carrying the abuse they suffered around with them for decades but I hope that now he has been exposed as a child sex offender and brought to justice for his heinous crimes that weight has been lifted.”

She further emphasized the importance of speaking out, saying, “Calderbank indecently and repeatedly abused three young, innocent children, robbing them of their childhood and innocence.”

Detective Constable Graham also highlighted the efforts of law enforcement, noting, “Thanks to their courage in speaking out, justice has been served and I want to stress that GMP has specially trained officers on hand to investigate historic offences like this regardless of how much time has passed.”
