KILBIRNIE MAN CAUGHT WITH 5,000 INDECENT IMAGES OF CHILDREN AVOIDS JAIL
A Kilbirnie man who was found in possession of a large quantity of indecent images of children has avoided a prison sentence.
Dylan Stevenson, aged 27, was caught with over 5,000 indecent photos of children as young as nine on his mobile phone.
The images included 3,340 accessible to the user and seven indecent videos.
Stevenson pleaded guilty at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on July 16 to possessing the images over a 13-month period on Meadowfoot Road, West Kilbride, and elsewhere.
The court was informed that officers raided his home with a search warrant and found the phone.
During sentencing on September 2, his solicitor mentioned that Stevenson had lost his job and changed residences several times recently.
He acknowledged the wrongfulness of his conduct and intended to leave the area soon.
Stevenson, who is in a relationship and became a father earlier this year but has no contact with the child, was handed a community payback order supervised by social workers for three years, was ordered to undertake 240 hours of unpaid work, and must participate in the Moving Forward Making Changes programme designed for convicted sexual offenders.
Additionally, he will be on the sex offenders register for three years and must follow conditions related to contact with children.
Sheriff Murdoch MacTaggart described the decision not to send him to custody as "a very narrow decision".
