DYFAN AND ROBYN WHELDON-WILLIAMS FROM BONTNEWYDD AND CAERNARFON FACE SHOCKING CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CHARGES
In a case that has sent ripples through the communities of Bontnewydd and Caernarfon, Dyfan Wheldon-Williams, aged 42, and his brother Robyn Wheldon-Williams have both admitted to possessing a staggering total of 1,402 indecent images of children. The disturbing revelations came to light during a hearing at Caernarfon Crown Court, where Judge Peter Heywood addressed the severity of their actions and the complex nature of their lives.Judge Heywood described their existence as a 'Jekyll and Hyde' scenario, expressing his profound shock at the duality of their personalities and the stark contrast between their outward achievements and their hidden, darker pursuits. Both brothers acknowledged that their involvement with online child pornography and related addictive behaviors had persisted for over a decade, highlighting the long-term nature of their troubling habits.
The judge pointed out that despite their academic accomplishments—both being high achievers—there was a deeply troubling side to their lives that involved social isolation and compulsive consumption of alcohol during weekends. The court heard that their weekends were often spent in solitude, engaging with disturbing material and substances, which further underscored the severity of their condition.
In a surprising turn, Judge Heywood decided against imposing immediate imprisonment. Instead, he sentenced both men to a three-year community order, emphasizing that incarceration would not resolve the underlying issues that led to their offending. The judge explained, 'If I send you to prison it would be for a matter of months and while it would deprive you of your liberty and punish you in the short term, it would not address the issues.'
As part of their sentence, both Dyfan and Robyn are mandated to participate in a 35-day internet sexual offender treatment program. Additionally, they are required to register as sex offenders for a period of five years and are ordered to pay costs amounting to £535. Robyn Wheldon-Williams, who is employed as a teacher at Ysgol Syr Hugh Owen, has been suspended from his duties since the arrest. Similarly, Dyfan, who teaches at Ysgol y Moelwyn, has also been suspended pending further proceedings.
The case has garnered significant attention in the local area, raising concerns about the hidden struggles faced by individuals who outwardly appear successful but are battling serious personal issues in private.
