In a disturbing case that has shocked the local communities, Duncan Ritchie, a 71-year-old former social worker residing in Holmewood, has been sentenced to 11 and a half years in prison for a series of heinous sexual assaults committed against multiple teenage victims. The crimes, which span several decades, involved both boys and girls, with some victims subjected to particularly brutal treatment.Ritchie’s offenses include indecent assaults on a 13-year-old boy, as well as four separate counts involving a 15-year-old girl. Additionally, he was convicted of four indecent assaults on a 14-year-old girl and two counts of indecent assault on a girl over the age of 16. The severity of his crimes is underscored by the fact that some victims endured physical abuse, including being burned and hit with a cane during the assaults.
The abuse took place at two locations: Greenacres home in Clay Cross and Lindenhurst home in Chesterfield. These locations are significant because they are associated with Ritchie’s employment as a social worker at the time, raising serious questions about the safety and oversight of vulnerable children in his care. The crimes, which date back to the 1980s, only came to light after a lengthy investigation and a five-week trial at Derby Crown Court.
