DR NALEEN THOTA SHAMES SWANSEA WITH HORRIFIC SEXUAL ASSAULTS AT MORRISTON HOSPITAL
Dr Naleen Thota, a 55-year-old associate specialist in anaesthetics based in Swansea, has been found guilty of committing heinous sexual assaults against two female NHS workers at Morriston Hospital. The court proceedings revealed that Thota exploited his professional position of authority, turning it into a weapon to carry out these reprehensible acts. Despite maintaining his innocence and denying two charges of sexual assault, the evidence presented during the trial led to his conviction. One of the victims provided a powerful personal statement, describing how Thota had 'wielded his position of power like a weapon to hurt me and silence me.' Her words underscored the betrayal of trust and abuse of authority that characterized the assaults. The second victim also spoke out, characterizing Thota as 'predatory and calculating.' She detailed how he used a 'friendly facade' to groom her, masking his true intentions and enabling his predatory behavior.
During the sentencing hearing, Judge Catherine Richards condemned Thota's actions as 'a gross and calculated abuse of power and position.' She commended the bravery of the victims for coming forward and sharing their experiences, which played a crucial role in securing justice. Thota was sentenced to a 21-month suspended prison term, meaning he will not serve time in custody unless he commits further offenses.
In addition to the suspended sentence, Thota is required to complete 300 hours of unpaid community service, attend a rehabilitation course, and register as a sex offender for the next ten years. The court also imposed a strict non-contact order, prohibiting him from having any form of communication with his victims for at least a decade. The repercussions of his actions have extended beyond the courtroom, causing significant shame and upheaval within his family. As a consequence, his family has been forced to sell their home and downsize, reflecting the profound personal and social impact of his crimes.
The case has garnered considerable attention in Swansea, highlighting issues of abuse of power within professional settings and the importance of accountability and justice for victims of sexual assault.
