DR IAIN DAVID BRYANT FROM LEVEN STRUCK OFF AFTER SEXUAL RELATIONSHIP WITH PUPIL AT TRAVELODGE

In a case that has shocked the community of Leven, Dr Iain David Bryant, a 55-year-old former teacher, has been officially removed from the teaching register following serious allegations of misconduct involving a pupil. Bryant, who was employed as a chemistry teacher at Levenmouth Academy in Leven, Fife, engaged in an inappropriate and illegal relationship with a student, referred to as Pupil A, beginning in October 2017.

Details of the misconduct reveal that Bryant and the pupil carried on an 18-month affair, during which they met at a Travelodge hotel. The investigation uncovered that Bryant had made the girl pay for her stay at the hotel, which was used as a secret meeting place for their encounters. The relationship culminated in a sexual act, during which Bryant and the pupil engaged in sexual activity at the hotel.

Furthermore, it was established that Bryant had kissed the underage girl on school grounds, an act that compounded the severity of his misconduct. To facilitate clandestine communication, Bryant purchased a burner phone, which he used to contact the pupil. The investigation revealed that he employed the codeword “Delilah” in their messages, indicating an attempt to conceal their interactions from authorities and school officials.

Following a thorough inquiry by the General Teaching Council for Scotland, all allegations against Bryant were found to be substantiated. As a result, he was formally struck off the teaching register on Thursday, effectively ending his career as an educator. The case has raised concerns about safeguarding and the importance of vigilance within educational institutions, especially in small communities like Leven where such breaches of trust have profound implications.
