SCOUTMASTER DOUGLAS MERRETT OF LINCOLNJAILED FOR MOLESTATION AT CAMP NEAR GAINSBOROUGH
In May 2005, a Lincolnshire scoutmaster named Douglas Merrett was sentenced to six months in jail after he committed sexual offenses involving two young girls during a camp in the county.Lincoln Crown Court was told that Merrett, 36, who resides in Willoughton near Gainsborough, was intoxicated when he entered the children's tent.
There, he attempted to kiss two girls aged 12 and 13 and also touched one of them.
The court heard that Merrett admitted to three charges of engaging in sexual activity with a child.
It was revealed that he had been drinking a mixture of beer and spirits at the time of the incidents.
Judge Andrew Hamilton sentenced Merrett, ordering him to register as a sex offender and prohibiting him from working with children in the future.
