ELDER MAN BANNED FROM SPEAKING TO WIFE AFTER THREATENING HER WITH A KNIFE
A 72-year-old man named Douglas Gannon from Blairgowrie has been banned from speaking to his wife for two years after he pulled a knife during a row at their home.Gannon was subject to a non-harassment order preventing him from having any contact with Ruby Gannon for the next 24 months.
The court in Perth was informed that Mrs.
Gannon, aged 69, requested protection following their separation.
Gannon admitted to acting in a threatening or abusive manner at their former residence on July 14, and also admitted to uttering threats of violence towards his wife while in possession of a knife.
As a result, he was placed under social work supervision for six months.
The court's fiscal depute, Sarah Wilkinson, stated that 'given the circumstances of the case and the fact my colleague spoke with the complainer, it was felt a non-harassment order would be of benefit.' The defense solicitor, David Holmes, highlighted Gannon's mobility issues and the unusual circumstances of the case, emphasizing that he was a man with no prior trouble and expressing hope for reconciliation, though it was clear that separation was now permanent.
Sheriff Neil Bowie expressed regret for Gannon's situation but emphasized the serious concern of brandishing a knife during an argument, especially given their separation, and advised him to avoid further trouble.
