Despite her assertions, the inspectors’ assessment was grim. They rated Bobby’s overall health at a mere 0.5 out of 10, a score that reflected her critical condition.

Following the inspection, Bobby was referred to a veterinarian, who confirmed that the dog was on the brink of death if not rescued promptly. Recognizing the severity of the situation, the RSPCA took custody of Bobby, and within a few weeks of receiving care, the dog showed significant signs of recovery. Her condition improved markedly, demonstrating the impact of proper treatment and nutrition.

During the court proceedings, Donna Swift admitted to two counts of causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal, acknowledging her role in the neglect. The case highlighted the importance of animal welfare laws and the responsibilities of pet owners to provide adequate care.

As part of her sentencing, Swift was ordered to complete 100 hours of community service and contribute £750 towards the costs incurred by the authorities.
