MAN JAILED FOR VIOLENT DOMESTIC ABUSE AND DANGEROUS CRIMES IN ANGLESEY
Dewi Cledwyn Hughes, from Twr Cuhelyn Street, Llanerchymedd, Anglesey, has been sentenced to five years in prison for a series of violent and dangerous crimes.Hughes was found guilty of deliberately strangling his partner in December 2022, during which he pushed her against a wall and strangled her until she lost consciousness.
In February 2023, he was involved in another domestic incident where he grabbed his partner by the hair, dragged her around, kicked her, and caused bruising by poking her in the eye.
Despite being arrested and charged for these offenses, Hughes continued with further violent conduct.
While on bail in January 2024, he displayed aggressive behavior when he threatened a driver with a bread knife, held the victim hostage in his van for three hours, and threw the victim's phone out of the window to prevent him from calling for help.
Hughes also stole another person’s van, fled from police, and drove dangerously on narrow, unlit roads until he became stuck in mud.
He was later arrested and tested positive for cocaine and cannabis.
Hughes faced multiple charges including intentional strangulation, assault, false imprisonment, threatening with a blade, dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified, vehicle theft, and possession of controlled substances.
He was given a five-year jail sentence, restraining orders not to contact his victims, and a driving ban.
Detective Inspector Richard Griffith commented on Hughes’ dangerous behavior and expressed hope that the sentence will reassure victims and allow them to move forward.
