DANIEL JONES FROM LLANNERCH-Y-MEDD FACES COURT OVER HORRIFIC ANIMAL CRUELTY ON ANGLESEY FARM
Daniel Jones, a 30-year-old farmer residing in the rural area of Anglesey, has admitted to causing unnecessary suffering to cattle on his farm located at Bodafon y Glyn near Llannerch-y-Medd. The charges against Jones include a series of serious allegations related to animal cruelty, with a total of 13 counts brought against him. These charges encompass acts of neglect and cruelty that resulted in the death of five cattle, with the offenses spanning from January 2023 through to April 2024.Jones appeared before Caernarfon Crown Court to face these allegations, where the presiding judge, Timothy Petts, issued a stern warning. The judge indicated that a prison sentence was almost inevitable when Jones is formally sentenced on October 3rd, reflecting the gravity of the case. During the proceedings, it was revealed that Jones’s partner, Ellis Judson, is also involved in the case but is expected to be acquitted of 12 similar charges next month.
The evidence presented in court painted a disturbing picture of the conditions on the farm. It was reported that 84 calves were found without access to water, with three of these requiring urgent veterinary care. Additionally, four dairy cows were discovered in a state of severe emaciation and dehydration, with three of them having to be euthanized due to their condition. The court also heard that the farm contained the remains of at least 18 cattle and calves, whose bodies, along with numerous carcasses, were found buried in manure heaps and silage pits, indicating a disturbing level of neglect and improper disposal.
Despite efforts to improve the farm’s conditions, the court did not impose a ban on Jones from keeping animals in the future. During the hearing, Jones mentioned that he and his partner had been expecting a baby at the time of the offenses, adding a personal context to the case. The judge emphasized the seriousness of the cruelty involved, considering the number of animals affected and the nature of the neglect. He also noted that the sentence could potentially be suspended, depending on the final judgment.
Ellis Judson, who was also charged in connection with the case, is expected to be cleared of all charges next month, providing some relief for her. The case has brought to light significant concerns about animal cruelty and neglect on farms in the Anglesey area, with sentencing scheduled for October. The incident underscores the importance of animal welfare and the need for strict enforcement of laws protecting farm animals from abuse and neglect.
