DEREK STORR SENTENCED IN AYR FOR ASSAULTING YOUNG GIRL ON TRAIN
In July 2014, Derek Storr, a former rail worker, was sentenced after he touched a 15-year-old girl on a train between Ayr and Maybole.The incident occurred during a journey on January 18, when Storr approached the teenager and her 15-year-old friend, making sexual remarks and touching the girl’s thigh.
Court proceedings revealed that Storr sat very close to the girls, which was considered inappropriate and contributed to the breakdown of his marriage.
At Ayr Sheriff Court last week, Storr was ordered to complete 150 hours of unpaid work, a reduction from the initial 200 hours, after pleading guilty earlier.
His solicitor, Ms.
Kane, stated, “He has been a hard working man all of his adult life working on the railways.
This incident has had an extreme impact on his marriage.
He has identified the conduct as shameful to him.
The recurring theme with his behaviour does appear to be the misuse of alcohol.” Sheriff Norman McFadyen commented, “Your behaviour is totally unacceptable.
It caused distress to the young girls and to the passengers on the train.” Storr is required to complete the community service within 12 months and will be subject to a two-year supervision order.
