DEON ELLIS'S BRUTAL CRIME IN LUTON AND CORBY: PUPPY STABBED AND RUN OVER

Deon Ellis, a known offender from Luton with links to Corby, Northants, and believed to be of no fixed abode but with a last known address in Fallowfield, Luton LU3, was involved in a heinous attack on a young dog named Hugo. Born around 1989, Ellis’s criminal history includes possession of a firearm in 2015, highlighting a pattern of violent and reckless behavior.

In a disturbing incident, Ellis targeted Hugo, a four-month-old 'XL bully' puppy, in what authorities described as a deliberate act of cruelty. The attack was reportedly motivated by a dispute between Ellis and Hugo’s family. Witnesses recounted that Ellis had engaged in a confrontation with the dog’s owners while Hugo was being walked. During the altercation, Ellis forcibly grabbed the puppy by its collar, lifting him off the ground before abruptly leaving the scene.

Following the attack, Hugo was left severely injured and was discovered the following morning by volunteers who had been searching through the night after a social media appeal. The young dog was found with multiple serious injuries, including knife wounds, and required urgent, life-saving surgery. The operation was funded through public donations, underscoring the community’s concern and compassion for the injured animal.

The court proceedings revealed that Ellis had stolen Hugo during the incident, and the dog was later taken more than 60 miles away to Corby. There, a woman heard a dog crying out in pain and saw Ellis driving a van towards the distressed animal. Witnesses observed Ellis swerving his vehicle intentionally to ensure he hit Hugo. The puppy was subsequently found with lacerations consistent with stab wounds, and blood splatters matching Hugo’s DNA were discovered in the back of the recovered van.

During the court hearing, Ellis appeared via video link from HMP Peterborough. He displayed a callous attitude, refusing to provide details about what he had done to Hugo to the dog’s owner. The court also noted Ellis’s prior convictions, emphasizing his history of violent offenses.

Ellis was found guilty by a jury of theft of a dog and criminal damage to a dog. Recorder George Keightley described the act as a “cruel, targeted and planned act,” motivated by revenge. He further stated, “You attempted, in my view, to either seriously injure or kill this puppy and in effect left it for dead in the street.”

As a result of his actions, Ellis was sentenced to a total of two years and four months in prison. He is expected to serve up to half of that sentence before being eligible for release on licence, reflecting the severity of his crimes and the community’s concern over animal cruelty in the Luton and Corby areas.
