DUNDEE DOMESTIC ABUSER DENNIS COX JAILED FOR EIGHT YEARS
A cruel abuser with 41 previous convictions has been publicly branded a danger to women after using knives to 'inflict torture' on his ex-partner and attempting to kill her.
Dennis Cox subjected Janine Stewart to a five-month ordeal in a house in Dundee, including biting, punching, and compressing her neck, causing her permanent injury and disfigurement.
Additionally, Cox was known to have used weapons such as knives during his reign of terror.
The incident in Balunie Avenue on April 12 last year prompted a joint investigation by the Domestic Abuse Task Force and Tayside Police, revealing the extent of Cox's violent behavior.
He also physically restrained his former partner with a sleeper hold, resulting in her permanent damage.
Cox faced charges including attempted murder, assault causing severe injury, and general assault but pleaded not guilty.
After a week-long trial, jurors convicted him.
The court also heard that Cox assaulted George Lamb with a hammer and tried to attack him with knives in Dundee last year.
At the High Court in Glasgow, Cox was branded a 'danger to women' and at high risk of re-offending.
He was sentenced to eight years in prison and was ordered to be monitored in the community on licence for two years post-release.
The judge emphasized Cox's lack of remorse and high risk of harm, with Detective Inspector Caine McIntyre praising the conviction as a message that domestic abuse is taken seriously and will be prosecuted robustly.
The sentencing aims to protect future victims from his violence.
