DELROY EDWARDS MOSELEY PAEDOPHILE SENTENCED TO 9 YEARS IN BIRMINGHAM CROWN COURT

In a case that has shocked the Moseley community, Delroy Edwards, aged 33, of Oxford Road in Moseley, was sentenced to nine years in prison after pleading guilty to a series of heinous sexual offenses involving young girls. The charges against Edwards included rape, attempted rape, unlawful sexual activity with a girl under the age of 13, and three counts of indecent assault. The crimes spanned a period from 1992 to 1997, during which Edwards committed these acts at his residence in Moseley.

Judge Laurence Marshall delivered the sentence at Birmingham Crown Court, emphasizing the gravity of Edwards' actions. He stated, “The offences that you have committed against these children are extremely serious. They are borne of perversion. What you have done is subject these children to your unbridled desires which has caused them untold harm.” The judge acknowledged Edwards' decision to plead guilty, noting that this spared the victims from the ordeal of cross-examination in court. However, he also expressed grave concern about the potential danger Edwards posed to other children, remarking, “In my judgement this catalogue of offences shows that any child in your immediate vicinity is at grave risk of sexual attack.”

Prosecutor Mr. Michael Burrows revealed that the criminal acts took place over a five-year period at Edwards' home in Moseley. The abuse came to light after one of the young girls involved confided in her mother, prompting an investigation. During police questioning, Edwards initially denied the allegations but was later taken to hospital after attempting to take his own life, indicating the severity of his psychological state.

Defense counsel, Mr. Brian Escott-Cox QC, argued that Edwards was a man of limited intellectual capacity and that the offenses occurred on only a few occasions. Despite this, the court found the crimes to be profoundly serious, leading to the nine-year custodial sentence. The case has left the Moseley community deeply disturbed, highlighting the importance of vigilance and safeguarding vulnerable children from predators like Edwards.
