DEAN WILSON FROM CLEETHORPES AND GRIMSBY INVOLVED IN BRUTAL ASSAULT AND RAPE CASES

In a disturbing incident that unfolded in Grimsby, Dean Wilson, aged 26, of Marlborough Close, was convicted of a violent assault that left his girlfriend with a severe facial injury. The incident occurred on August 16, 2017, during a night of heavy drinking, which escalated into a dangerous confrontation.

According to court proceedings, Wilson, a man with a troubling criminal history, had previously been convicted of 11 offences, including a lengthy prison sentence of 57 months handed down in April 2012 for robbery, affray, and possession of an offensive weapon. His criminal record also includes a four-year sentence in 2009 for a serious sexual offence involving the rape of a schoolgirl.

On the night of the assault, Craig Lowe, prosecuting, detailed how Wilson was drinking with his girlfriend and two other men. Tensions flared when Wilson became argumentative towards one of the other males present. However, the aggression was soon redirected towards his 19-year-old girlfriend. Wilson threatened to cut her face, but she initially did not believe he was serious.

Suddenly, Wilson produced a craft knife and inflicted a deep cut on her left cheek, near her ear. Witnesses saw blood on her arm, and she was visibly terrified and frightened by the attack. Wilson then began to cut his own arm in a state of distress, but one of the men present managed to wrest the knife away from him and threw it out of a nearby window. During this episode, Wilson expressed suicidal intentions, tearfully apologizing for his actions.

The woman sustained a four-inch wound that was treated with glue at the hospital, leaving her with a noticeable scar. Wilson, who has been in custody since August 18, received a sentence of 20 months suspended imprisonment, along with six months of alcohol treatment and 15 days of rehabilitation.

In a separate and equally disturbing case from May 2017, Wilson was released from prison and was residing in Grimsby when he committed a heinous sexual offence. He was sentenced to four years and nine months in prison for raping a 15-year-old girl. The court heard how Wilson, then 17 and living on Daubney Street in Cleethorpes, callously exploited the girl’s intoxicated state.

Prosecutor Helen Hendry described how Wilson encountered the girl while she was out with friends in Cleethorpes. Recognizing her drunkenness, Wilson approached her and offered to look after her. However, within minutes, he began to kiss and hug her, taking advantage of her vulnerable state. The girl later recounted to police that Wilson started to assault her, refusing to let her get up and raping her despite her protests.

Witnesses returning from a night out saw a male leaving the scene and heard a girl crying behind some wheelie bins. They found the girl, partly undressed and hysterical, and promptly contacted the police. One of the passers-by took her to his flat for safety. Wilson had spent 48 days in custody following his arrest.

Judge John Swanson, who presided over the case, did not impose reporting restrictions on Wilson’s identity. He condemned Wilson’s actions, stating, “You clearly made up your mind you were going to rape her. When she was on the ground, you undressed her and raped her. What you did was to callously use some young girl as a sex aid to satisfy your lust. It was the utterly callous selfishness of what you did.”

The girl’s mother, present in court, expressed her relief at the sentence, stating, “I am pleased with the sentence. I am pleased he is off the streets for a while. He didn’t look sorry to me. At least my daughter didn’t have the ordeal of a trial. It has been an absolute nightmare. She is still very traumatised by it and has nightmares, but she will get over it, with support. I am glad the judge told him what he thought of him. All I can do is thank from the bottom of my heart the two boys who found her. It was very brave of them. Many people would not have wanted to get involved. They were very kind.”
