WOMAN BEATER SENTENCED TO PRISON FOR VIOLENCE AND RESTRAINING ORDER BREACH
Dean Syson, aged 44, has been jailed for repeatedly attacking his former partner.
Syson, who was intoxicated during the incidents, assaulted the woman on multiple occasions, including the night before he was scheduled to appear in court for breaching a restraining order.
During the attack, he reportedly hit her in the face and threatened to bite her nose off.
The court heard that Syson has a long history of violent offenses, with 35 convictions for 107 offenses, and has repeatedly breached court orders, including restraining and non-molestation orders.
In one recent incident, he entered the woman's home at 11 pm while she was at a friend's house, assaulted her physically and verbally, and threw her phone against the wall when she tried to defend herself.
The victim stated in a victim impact statement that she does not want to rekindle the relationship due to past violence and desires a restraining order.
Syson pleaded guilty to two breaches of the non-molestation order and criminal damage to her phone.
Judge Tony Briggs sentenced him to 10 months in prison and imposed an indefinite restraining order banning him from entering her street.
The judge noted Syson's extensive violent record and breaches of orders, acknowledging his remorse but emphasizing the need for custody to protect the victim.
