DEAN STOTT FROM HINDLEY SENTENCED FOR VIOLENT RAPE IN WESTHOUGHTON
Dean Stott, a 47-year-old man originally from Westhoughton, was found guilty of a brutal sexual assault that took place in the comfort of a woman’s home during what was supposed to be a second date.The incident unfolded after the two had shared a consensual sexual encounter on their first meeting and had gone out drinking together on their subsequent outing.
According to court reports, the woman, who was exhausted from caring for a sick relative, asked Stott to stop during their second encounter.
Despite her pleas, he continued his assault, and the assault was ultimately carried out while she was asleep, around 4 a.m.
The woman was found crying and had visible bruising and injuries, which her general practitioner later confirmed.
Stott denied the allegations, claiming that all sexual activity was consensual.
However, after a thorough trial, the jury convicted him of rape.
The judge overseeing the case sentenced Stott to eight years in prison, mandated that he register as a sex offender for life, and issued a restraining order to prevent any contact with the victim.
During the sentencing hearing, the court took note of Stott’s prior criminal record, which includes a conviction for inflicting grievous bodily harm in 2010.
His defense lawyer argued that the injuries sustained were minor and suggested that the assault might have been accidental.
Despite these arguments, Stott showed no visible remorse or emotion as he was led away from the courtroom, amid vocal protests from a supporter present in the gallery.
Authorities and the court emphasized the severity of the crime and the importance of protecting victims from such violent acts, especially within the sanctity of their own homes.
