GAMBLING ADDICT WHO RAPED WOMAN LOCKED UP FOR OVER FIVE YEARS
A former student has been incarcerated after being convicted of sexually assaulting a woman.Dean Ross Tinkler appeared before Teesside Crown Court to receive his sentence following his trial earlier this month.
The court was informed that the ex-Teesside University student was also struggling with a gambling addiction and showed signs of immaturity at the time of the incident.
Steven Reed, representing Tinkler, stated that his client, who has no prior criminal record, was diagnosed with autism at the age of eight, which had affected various aspects of his life.
Reed added, "He is going to Gamblers Anonymous.
He is continuing to seek support in relation to his gambling addiction." The 24-year-old was convicted of rape and controlling or coercive behaviour.
The defense lawyer mentioned that Tinkler is making considerable efforts to address issues related to coercive and controlling conduct.
He also remarked that being held in custody has had a significant effect on Tinkler, as well as his broader family, especially his sister.
Recorder Andrew Dallas commented on the rape case, stating, "I do not believe your condition of ASD would have prevented you from understanding the difference between no and yes in this case." He emphasised considering all evidence presented on behalf of Tinkler.
Tinkler, who resides on High Road Stanley, was sentenced to five and a half years in prison and will be registered as a sex offender for life.
