DEAN ROBBINS FROM NEWPORT JAILED FOR THREATS AND VIOLENCE AT HIS EX-GIRLFRIEND'S HOME

A man from Newport, Dean Robbins, has been sentenced to prison after a frightening incident involving threats and acts of violence directed at his former partner. The events unfolded in the early hours of a summer morning, leaving the victim deeply traumatized and fearful for her safety.

Robbins, aged 31 and residing on Hendre Farm Drive in Ringland, appeared at Cardiff Crown Court to face charges related to his aggressive behavior. The prosecution, led by Talia Keskin, detailed how Robbins had arrived at his ex-girlfriend’s residence while intoxicated, creating a terrifying scene that would leave lasting emotional scars.

According to court reports, Robbins threw a children’s slide and a garden chair directly at the windows of his ex-partner’s home during the incident. Witnesses described the event as “terrifying,” emphasizing the chaos and fear it caused. When police arrived to arrest Robbins, they noted that he was visibly drunk and was not making coherent sense during questioning. A search of his person revealed he was carrying a pocket knife with a blade measuring approximately 2.5 inches.

The incident was specifically detailed to have occurred on Monday, August 30, 2021. The complainant, who was asleep on her sofa at the time, was awakened at around 3:40 a.m. by movement outside her window. Upon looking out, she saw Robbins standing outside her home. She immediately told him to leave, but he responded with threatening language, shouting, “I’ll ******* kill you. Wait till I get in – you’re dead!”

Distressed, the victim started crying and promptly called the police. During the call, the operator could hear Robbins making explicit threats to kill her. The situation escalated as Robbins kicked her door and threw a garden chair and children’s slide at her windows, further intensifying the danger she faced.

In a victim impact statement read to the court, the woman expressed her ongoing fear and anxiety following the incident. She stated, “I have felt very on edge since the incident and I don’t feel safe at home. I then had a friend living with me for a month when I was brave enough to move back home. I feel on edge when I go to sleep as my friend is not staying here any longer.”

Robbins pleaded guilty to charges of making threats to kill and possessing a bladed article. His actions occurred while he was already under a suspended prison sentence for driving while disqualified, a penalty imposed shortly after he was caught drink driving.

During the hearing, defense solicitor Ben Waters expressed remorse on behalf of Robbins, stating that his client was ashamed of his actions and accepted that the relationship was over. He also highlighted that Robbins had since secured full-time employment and had ceased drinking alcohol altogether.

However, the judge, Recorder Paul Hobson, emphasized the severity of Robbins’ conduct, noting that his ex-girlfriend was understandably terrified. The judge remarked, “Your ex-partner was terrified by what you did and no wonder. She is still fearful of you.”

As a result, Robbins was sentenced to 16 months in prison. Additionally, he was placed under a five-year restraining order, prohibiting him from making any contact with his former partner, ensuring her safety and peace of mind moving forward.
