DEAN HADLOW'S RAMPAGE IN HAMILTON: SMOKE BOMB AND THREATS LEAD TO RETURN TO PRISON

In a disturbing incident that unfolded in Hamilton, Dean Haddow, a man with a long history of violent behavior, was involved in a reckless and threatening act that resulted in his re-incarceration. The events took place after Haddow was released early from prison, a decision that did little to curb his aggressive tendencies.

According to court reports, Haddow arrived at a residential property in Hamilton around 7 pm. He demanded to see a man named 'John,' insisting on speaking with him. When the female occupant of the house informed Haddow that John was not present, he became visibly agitated. Without warning, Haddow forcefully entered the house, shouting questions about John's whereabouts and demanding to see him. The woman, frightened by his aggressive demeanor, quickly contacted the police to report the disturbance.

As Haddow's agitation escalated, he threw a smoke bomb into the living room, creating a scene of chaos and panic. The woman, in an effort to contain the situation, wrapped the smoke bomb in a small piece of fabric and threw it outside the house, attempting to mitigate the danger. The smoke bomb's explosion caused a significant disturbance, forcing the occupants to seek safety and call law enforcement.

Haddow's behavior was described as threatening and abusive, leading to his arrest. He later admitted to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner at the Hamilton residence in January. The court heard that Haddow's actions were fueled by a dispute over money, which appeared to be the underlying motive for his aggressive intrusion. His previous criminal record, which includes a notorious case of culpable homicide involving his own half-brother, was highlighted by Sheriff Andrew McIntyre as evidence of his dangerous history.

During the hearing, depute fiscal Aga Mathieson detailed the incident, stating, "Around 7 pm, the accused attended the location where a female witness opened the door. He asked to see 'John' and claimed he wanted to speak to him but was told he was not there. The accused then entered the property, shouting 'where is he?' The man known as John was hiding behind a bedroom door. The female occupant called the police, and Haddow, upon hearing this, left the house after throwing a smoke bomb. The woman found the device, wrapped it in fabric, and threw it outside."

Haddow's defense attorney, Jackson Bateman, acknowledged the disruptive nature of the incident, stating, "The item was thrown while he was in the room, and no medical attention was required. It was unpleasant, upsetting, and a nuisance. The background involved a financial dispute, and Haddow regrets his actions, believing he was being ignored by the individual he sought."

Sheriff McIntyre condemned Haddow's conduct, emphasizing the seriousness of his actions: "You were inside someone's home, threw a smoke bomb, and behaved abusively. Your record of previous convictions is terrible and includes a culpable homicide. This pattern of violence is deeply concerning."

Haddow, a resident of Hamilton, has a long and violent criminal history. Notably, he was involved in the killing of Stephen Gormley in Cambuslang in April 2010. At just 17 years old, Haddow attacked Gormley, aged 32, over comments about his deceased baby, a day after Gormley had saved his life when he became unwell and stopped breathing. Originally charged with murder, Haddow pleaded guilty to a lesser charge and was sentenced to four years and three months in prison. His latest actions underscore a troubling pattern of violence and disregard for the law.
