DEAN GOODWIN FROM NORMACOT SENTENCED FOR PREDATORY SEXUAL OFFENSES INVOLVING SCHOOLGIRLS IN STOKE-ON-TRENT
In November 2016, Dean Goodwin, a 27-year-old resident of Normacot, was sentenced to six years in prison after being found guilty of engaging in sexual activities with two underage girls. The case, which was heard at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court, revealed a disturbing pattern of predatory behavior by Goodwin, who targeted vulnerable teenagers within his local community.Prosecutor James Dunstan provided detailed accounts of the offenses, beginning with the first victim, who was only 13 years old when she encountered Goodwin. According to the court, Goodwin initially gave her vodka, which led her to feel unwell and eventually go to bed. Despite her condition, Goodwin followed her and engaged in consensual sexual activity with her. This incident marked the start of a troubling relationship that lasted approximately a year.
The second victim, who was 14 at the time, also became involved with Goodwin. He falsely claimed to be 18 years old to make himself more appealing to her, a deception that was intended to conceal his true age and intentions. Their relationship involved regular sexual encounters, often taking place at Goodwin’s residence or where the girl was living. Court records indicated that Goodwin’s conduct was not only predatory but also violent at times. He assaulted her after she was seen talking to a friend and made disturbing remarks about marriage and her appearance, asserting that he wanted to marry her and that if she refused to have sex, he would seek someone else.
Despite being served with a child abduction warning notice, Goodwin continued to pursue the girl. He used ladders to climb into her home, demonstrating a blatant disregard for legal boundaries and her safety. The girl was eventually relocated to another part of the country for her protection, but she later returned. Upon her return, she and Goodwin resumed their sexual relationship, which was facilitated by alcohol and amphetamines provided by him.
Goodwin’s criminal record includes eight charges of sexual activity with a child and two counts of child abduction. His actions prompted a strong response from the court, with Judge David Fletcher condemning his behavior as entirely wrong and inappropriate. The judge emphasized that Goodwin was fully aware that his actions were illegal and morally wrong but continued regardless, driven by his own sexual desires.
In addition to his prison sentence, Goodwin was subjected to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order and was placed on the sex offenders’ register for life. The case highlights the serious dangers posed by individuals who exploit vulnerable minors and underscores the importance of vigilant law enforcement and community awareness in protecting young people from predatory behavior.
