'POSSESSIVE AND SO JEALOUS' MAN BOMBARDED EX-PARTNER WITH 500 PHONE CALLS
Dean Coleman, aged 35, threatened a woman who described herself as being 'frightened out of her wits'.The Bradford resident relentlessly contacted his ex-partner, sending hundreds of calls and messages, and issued threatening remarks such as intending to 'smash her into a million pieces' in a calculated act of harassment.
His relationship with the woman was tumultuous and characterized by jealousy and possessiveness, beginning in 2019 and ending definitively in September last year.
During a hearing at Leeds Crown Court, it was revealed that Coleman's behavior had intensified following allegations of infidelity.
Prosecutor Stephen Littlewood stated that Coleman had been convicted and sentenced in absentia to six months in prison after an incident during a holiday in Spain.
Tensions reached a breaking point in September 2022 when the woman uncovered information suggesting infidelity, leading her to terminate the relationship that morning.
She had locked her doors as Coleman went to work, and upon his return, she realized the relationship was over.
He left before police arrived, but soon after, he began bombarding her with hundreds of phone calls.
Later, he followed her into a convenience store, prompting her to contact police.
Despite his departure, her phone kept ringing with hundreds of missed calls.
He also left threatening voicemails for her sister and sent messages to a friend threatening violence.
After being arrested and released with conditions not to contact her, Coleman still attempted to reach her, calling from different numbers, trying to add her on social media platforms, and emailing threats of harm.
She answered a call from him in which he explicitly threatened to kill her, then reported the incident to police.
While officers were present, she received another call during which Coleman was heard insulting her.
The officers observed her distress, including retching and describing herself as terrified.
Over the indictment period, Coleman made about 500 unwanted calls to the woman, with 492 calls occurring between September 16 and 20 last year.
He was convicted of stalking out of fear of violence and has previous convictions for violent offenses.
