SCOTTISH MAN CONVICTED OF MULTIPLE ASSAULTS, BUT RELEASED EARLY SPARKS OUTRAGE
Dean Allen, a man from Alva, was charged with 29 offences, including serious violence and horrific sexual brutality. In court, he was convicted of only three assaults against two former partners, with some allegations not proven.
Allen claimed that he believed the women consented, as they did not say no, but he was ultimately jailed for 18 months at the High Court in Glasgow.
His victims, including Dee Wootton and Jenna Burns, expressed their dismay and fears about his early release, highlighting that he was a charmer initially but became violent and demanding.
Dee Wootton, who waived her right to anonymity, stated: "I'm disgusted and feel totally let down by the system.
He'll be out in a few months and I'll need an interdict or power of arrest against him." Her account detailed cases where Allen beat her, resulting in her losing her unborn child, and his history of violence, including attacks dating back to 2002.
Jenna Burns, his former partner, also spoke about her fear for her life.
Allen's previous convictions include attacking police officers and a fast food worker, and he has pleaded guilty to assaulting officers.
Campaigners criticize the legal system for the not proven verdict, which they believe allows guilty men to escape punishment.
Dee and Jenna hope their speaking out will encourage others to do the same, despite the system's shortcomings.
