LLANDYBIE: JEALOUS MAN JAILED FOR STALKING EX-GIRLFRIEND

A MAN who becomes “consumed by jealousy” when he drinks was jailed for stalking his ex-girlfriend and breaching a restraining order preventing him for contacting her.

David Williams, 45, had been made the subject of the five-year restraining order in September 2024 for harassment against the woman from Llandybie.

The defendant was handed a six-month prison sentence for the offence that was suspended for 24 months.

Swansea Crown Court heard that his latest offending took place this September and it put him in breach of that suspended jail term.

Williams also stalked a man he believed his former partner was having a relationship with.

The defendant, of Bron Yr Ynn, Drefach, Llanelli pleaded guilty to stalking and being in breach of a restraining order.

His offences took place in Llandybie and the Gower.

Williams has a previous conviction of assault occasioning actual bodily harm committed against a different ex-girlfriend in 2015 for which he received a suspended prison sentence.

David Singh representing him said in mitigation: “There is a different side to this defendant.

In drink, he is foolish and impetuous.” When sober, his barrister said he was a good father to the children he shares with the female victim of his latest offences.

“He ought to grow up,” Mr Singh added.

“The defendant has been alcohol free since he was remanded in custody in September.” Judge Huw Rees told Williams: “You weren’t brought up to behave in this way.

You’ve brought shame on your parents and you’ve put your mother through the indignity of writing me a pleading letter on your behalf.” He added: “When you drink, you become consumed by jealousy and you become a self-centred individual.

The time has come for you to take stock.

You already have convictions for very serious offences.” Williams was jailed for 15 months and told the time he has spent in custody would count towards his sentence.

The defendant must pay a victim surcharge following his release from custody.
