DUNDEE WINDOWS CLEANER JAILED FOR RAPING VULNERABLE WOMAN
A window cleaner who frequently raped a vulnerable woman over a span of ten years was sentenced to eight years in prison.David West, aged 70, assaulted and raped the woman at various addresses within the Dundee area.
The victim, who was deemed incapable of consenting due to a mental disorder, described her feelings in court: “I don’t want to see him again ever in my whole life.” West, previously residing on Archer Street in Dundee, had initially denied the charges of rape committed between January 2007 and May 2017 but was ultimately convicted of two counts of rape spanning that period.
The judge, Lady Wise, expressed that West’s actions were predatory, involving manipulation and exploitation of an extremely vulnerable woman, and stated that his reprehensible behavior had caused her significant anxiety and suffering.
Despite his age and lack of prior criminal history, West was sentenced to eight years and will be registered as a sex offender for life.
The court heard that West had worked as a window cleaner for the victim and would often pester her to let him into her flat, leading to occasions where she felt scared when alone with him.
West claimed that both parties were consenting adults and argued that she was okay with their relationship, denying any use of power or manipulation.
The verdict was reached after a trial that involved distressing evidence, with the judge noting that some jurors might find the testimonies difficult to listen to.
The authorities emphasized the serious nature of the crimes, and West was instructed to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life.
