BLANTYRE MAN AVOIDS JAIL FOR CHILD ABUSE IMAGES
A Blantyre man caught with hundreds of photos showing children being sexually abused has avoided a prison sentence.He was ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid community work when he appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court last week.
He was also placed under supervision for two years and will be on the sex offenders’ register for the same period.
Welsh admitted having child porn on his home computer.
Vish Kathuria prosecuting, told the court police raided Welsh’s flat in July last year after a national child abuse prevention agency received information linking his computer with child porn file sharing.
Analysis found 808 photos and four videos, all depicting abuse of children.
It was estimated the ages of the youngsters ranged from five to 15 years.
After studying background reports, Sheriff Shiona Waldron said she was willing to impose a community payback order rather than jail Welsh, who has no previous convictions.
