DAVID WEBB, HEREFORD TAXI DRIVER, CONVICTED OF SERIAL SEX OFFENSES AGAINST YOUNG GIRLS

In a shocking revelation that has rocked the community of Hereford, David Webb, a man long trusted as a reliable taxi driver, has been found guilty of a series of heinous sexual offenses committed against young girls over a span of more than two decades. Webb, who was known for his role in transporting children to and from school, was ultimately exposed after a meticulous investigation led by a dedicated detective from Herefordshire CID.

Detective Constable Sue Prosser played a pivotal role in uncovering the disturbing truth behind Webb’s actions. Her diligent efforts and skillful case-building were recognized by a crown court judge this week, culminating in Webb’s conviction and subsequent sentencing to 15 years in prison. The case, which is considered one of the most severe serial sex offense cases in the history of the county, involved extensive evidence collection and numerous interviews that spanned several months.

During the proceedings at Worcester Crown Court, Judge Daniel Pearce-Higgins QC commended DC Prosser for her perseverance and expertise, acknowledging the considerable challenges faced during the investigation. The judge also expressed empathy for the victims, whose testimonies were so distressing that they moved many in the courtroom to tears. The details of the case remain under legal restriction, but it is known that the evidence presented was deeply troubling and revealed a pattern of predatory behavior by Webb.

Webb, aged 52 and residing at Bennett Mead, Moor Farm, Hereford, was found guilty on 27 counts, including rape, attempted rape, indecent assault, and indecency with a child. These offenses spanned a period of approximately 24 years, highlighting a disturbing pattern of abuse. The court heard that Webb’s actions were driven by a desire for perverted sexual gratification, targeting vulnerable young girls without regard for their well-being.

In his sentencing remarks, Judge Pearce-Higgins condemned Webb’s actions and praised the bravery of the victims who came forward to give evidence against him. The judge expressed hope that the convictions would help the victims begin to recover from the trauma they endured, describing their ordeal as distressing and deeply upsetting.

Despite Webb’s trusted role as a licensed taxi driver approved by Herefordshire Council to transport children, none of his victims were chosen from his official school runs. The trial revealed that Webb’s motives were not linked to his professional duties but rather to personal predatory tendencies. Webb had previously claimed that witnesses were motivated by financial gain, grudges, or drug influence, but these claims did little to sway the court.

Following his conviction, Webb was sentenced to a 15-year prison term and was also subjected to a lifelong sexual offences prevention order, which prohibits him from having contact with children under the age of 16. Additionally, he is required to register as a sex offender for life. The authorities confirmed that Webb had undergone all necessary safety and criminal record checks since obtaining his taxi license in 2002, with the most recent clearance in November 2007. No complaints or allegations had been made against him during his years as a licensed driver.

Webb’s taxi license was suspended immediately in July of the previous year when police first informed the council of the serious charges against him. Since then, he has not been permitted to operate a taxi. With his conviction, Webb’s license will now be formally revoked, ending his long-standing role in the community as a trusted driver and raising questions about the safety protocols in place for those transporting children.
