DAVID WALKER FROM BULWELL SENTENCED FOR DECADES-OLD CHILD ABUSE IN NOTTINGHAM

In a case that spanned over two decades, David Walker, a resident of Bulwell, Nottingham, was finally brought to justice for the sexual abuse he inflicted on a young girl many years ago. The disturbing revelations came to light after the victim, who had kept her painful secret for 26 years, decided to confide in her medical professional and the authorities last year, leading to Walker's arrest and subsequent trial.

Walker, aged 58 and residing on Spruce Gardens in Bulwell, appeared before Nottingham Crown Court to face charges related to his long-standing misconduct. The court heard that Walker had committed multiple offences against the girl, who was between the ages of 12 and 17 at the time of the abuse. The offences included six counts of indecent assault and two counts of indecency with a minor. These acts, which involved touching the girl both over and under her clothing, occurred repeatedly over a period of several years, with the prosecutor, Peter Walmsley, describing the abuse as not only prolonged but also occurring approximately twice a month during the late 1980s and early 1990s.

It was revealed that Walker's criminal history included a previous conviction for sexual assault on a female in 1972, for which he was fined £75. This prior conviction underscored a troubling pattern of behavior that spanned decades.

During the hearing, Walker pleaded guilty to all charges, acknowledging his misconduct early in the process. His defense attorney, Jonathan Straw, emphasized Walker's remorse and his desire to confront his past actions, stating that his client was genuinely sorry and had sought to address his offending.

Judge David Price, presiding over the case, expressed his understanding of the profound emotional and psychological damage caused to the victim. He noted that the severity of the offences warranted a custodial sentence, which he subsequently imposed. Walker was sentenced to 15 months in prison and was ordered to sign the sex offenders' register for a period of ten years. The judge also remarked on the seriousness of the offences, highlighting that they had continued over a significant period and had inflicted considerable harm on the victim.
