REDCAR PAEDOPHILE DAVID STANDLEY CAUGHT IN SHOCKING SEX PLOT IN TEESSIDE WOODS
In September 2021, a disturbing case unfolded involving David Standley, a resident of Redcar, who was caught engaging in predatory behavior targeting a child through online communications.The incident was brought to light after a vigilant paedophile hunter group successfully identified and apprehended him following a series of alarming messages.
Standley, who resides on Station Road in Redcar, appeared at Teesside Crown Court via video link from HMP Durham to face charges related to attempting to incite a child into sexual activity.
The court proceedings revealed that between March 2019 and April 2020, he engaged in a series of conversations with what he believed was a 14-year-old girl on Facebook.
During these exchanges, he sent explicit photographs of himself and solicited similar images from the decoy, demonstrating a clear intent to exploit.
The decoy, operated by the Angels of Innocence—a group dedicated to exposing and bringing to justice individuals involved in child exploitation—had created a profile with a picture that was unmistakably of a child.
On April 12, 2019, Standley, who had no profile picture himself, sent a friend request, initiating a dialogue that quickly turned sexual.
The decoy disclosed her age, claiming to be 14, prompting Standley to inquire about her relationship status and whether she had a boyfriend.
As the conversations progressed over several months, Standley continued to send overtly sexual messages, asking her to send images of herself in a bra and complimenting her appearance by calling her “stunning” and “sexy.” He also inquired about her plans after leaving school, revealing a disturbing level of familiarity and intent.
The messages escalated to the point where Standley sent an explicit photograph of himself and suggested that she travel by train to meet him for sex in the woods, a chilling indication of his intentions.
Standley's criminal behavior did not end there.
The court heard that he was arrested in January following the investigation and was subsequently charged.
However, his criminal activities continued on New Year’s Eve, when police responded to reports of men with baseball bats at an address on Queen Street in Redcar.
Officers found Standley, described as intoxicated and agitated, in the vicinity with another man.
During the encounter, he slapped the other man and was found in possession of an eight-inch kitchen knife, which he claimed was for his own protection.
Further background revealed that Standley had a history of criminal convictions, totaling eight previous convictions for twelve offences, with the most recent being in June of the previous year for malicious communications.
His pattern of offending underscored the seriousness of his actions.
Judge Howard Crowson sentenced Standley to a prison term of three years and two months.
Additionally, he was placed under a lifelong sexual harm prevention order and will be registered as a sex offender for the rest of his life, reflecting the gravity of his offenses and the ongoing risk he poses to the community.
