DAVID ROBINSON FROM SOUTH SHIELDS ADMITS SEXUAL ASSAULT ON UNDERAGE GIRL IN SUTTON COURT
In April 2017, a man from South Shields, identified as David Robinson, aged 51, faced serious allegations of sexual misconduct involving a young girl.Robinson had initially befriended the teenager, presenting himself as a mentor or protector, which made the subsequent allegations particularly disturbing to those involved in the case.
According to the court proceedings at Sunderland Magistrates' Court, Robinson’s actions went beyond mere friendship.
He exploited the trust of the underage girl by engaging in inappropriate sexual touching.
The court heard that Robinson, who resides on Gordon Road in South Shields, had touched the girl sexually and had coerced her into attending court proceedings while visibly distressed, clinging to her mother and overwhelmed with tears.
Prosecutor Brian Payne detailed the nature of Robinson’s misconduct, stating, “As time moved on, he became more involved, particularly with the complainant.
Her account is that she was touched by him.” Initially, Robinson denied any sexual assault, but on the day scheduled for his trial, he changed his plea to guilty, admitting that he had sexually touched the girl without her consent.
Mr.
Payne further explained that Robinson acknowledged meeting the girl, forming a friendship, and helping her in some capacity.
However, he admitted that on at least one occasion, he touched her over her clothing near her bottom, an act he now recognizes as inappropriate.
The prosecution accepted Robinson’s plea, emphasizing that the behavior was sexual and unacceptable.
It was also noted during the hearing that Robinson has prior convictions, although these are of a different nature and not related to sexual offenses.
The court was informed that the young girl appeared extremely distressed during the proceedings, clinging to her mother and crying uncontrollably.
The court acknowledged that Robinson’s decision to plead guilty spared the girl from having to testify in court.
The magistrates decided to adjourn sentencing until a probation report could be prepared, which would assess Robinson’s personal circumstances and potential risk factors.
Robinson was granted bail and is scheduled to return to South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court on May 16 for sentencing.
