CARDIFF MAN SENTENCED FOR ONLINE CHILD SEX OFFENDING
A paedophile named David Rhind has been convicted of engaging in sexual communications with a child. He believed he was speaking to a 13-year-old girl named Maisie and sent nude pictures of himself to the undercover officer pretending to be the girl.
Rhind offered to meet her at a hotel or his home, discussing intimate activities such as cuddling naked and showering together during conversations held in a chatroom.
The evidence revealed that Rhind was soliciting images and discussing meeting up, with him requesting photographs of the decoy and discussing her clothing, including her school uniform.
He also sent multiple images of himself, initially clothed and later nude.
Rhind was arrested on March 25 after handing over several mobile phones along with passcodes, during which he admitted that his conversations could be sexual due to boredom, loneliness, and frustration, but claimed ignorance of their illegal nature.
He pleaded guilty to engaging in sexual communications with a child and was sentenced to a three-year community order, which includes 160 hours of unpaid work, 26 sessions of an accredited programme, and a court costs payment of £150.
The judge emphasized the seriousness of the offense, stating that children must be protected from sexual contact from adults, and that Rhind knew his actions were wrong.
