DAVID POCHWYT SENTENCED IN MEIR FOR WEBCAM SEX OFFENCE INVOLVING 'GIRL, 11' IN STOKE-ON-TRENT
In a case that has shocked the local community of Meir, David Pochwyt, aged 45, has been sentenced to a year in prison following his involvement in a disturbing online sexual misconduct case. The incident came to light after the Metropolitan Police launched a covert operation targeting individuals communicating with minors in chat rooms, aiming to uncover those engaging in illegal activities.During the investigation, officers posed as an 11-year-old girl named Rosie, and Pochwyt was identified as a suspect who contacted her multiple times through the internet. The police's undercover operation revealed that Pochwyt repeatedly engaged with the fictitious girl, asking her to send him provocative photographs and suggesting he would expose himself to her. He also inquired whether she would be interested in engaging in sexual activity via webcam, believing he was communicating with a minor.
Prosecutor David Bennett outlined the details of the case during a hearing at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court, emphasizing that Pochwyt did not suggest any physical meeting with the girl but was persistent in his online advances. He told her to keep their conversations secret and continued to pressure her for explicit images and dirty talk. The court was informed that Pochwyt was arrested in June 2008, and initially denied the allegations. However, during a subsequent interview in December 2008, he admitted to communicating with the girl online and performing a sexual act over the webcam.
It was also revealed that Pochwyt had pleaded guilty to three separate offences under the Sexual Offences Act, with convictions dating back to October 2007, October 2007, and January 2008. His guilty pleas underscored the seriousness of his actions and the breach of trust involved.
Robin Lichfield, representing the defendant, attempted to mitigate the severity of the sentence by stating that there was no physical contact between Pochwyt and the fictitious girl. He acknowledged that his client was foolish and expressed remorse, emphasizing that Pochwyt wanted to move past the incident and learn from his mistakes. Despite this, Judge Robert Trevor-Jones sentenced Pochwyt to 12 months in prison and imposed a strict 10-year sexual offences prevention order. The order restricts Pochwyt from accessing the internet, except for work-related purposes, and prohibits any unsupervised contact with females under the age of 18, aiming to prevent any future offences and protect potential victims in the community of Meir.
