A WREXHAM man who sexually abused two underage girls has been jailed.David Peers, of Llay New Road, Llay, appeared before Mold Crown Court for sentencing on Thursday (January 8).
The 71-year-old had previously admitted nine counts of indecent assault on a girl under 16, and two of gross indecency involving a girl under 16.
The offences date back to the 1980s, and involve two victims.
Dafydd Roberts, prosecuting, said Peers, was in his late twenties when the offending began.
Both offences began with Peers, who was married, taking them for a drive in his car, before leaning over the seat to kiss them.
The abuse then progressed from then on – and included penetrative sexual intercourse, and various other sexual acts.
After Peer was arrested, he answered no comment in his police interview.
One of his victims bravely read out a statement to the court detailing the impact of Peers’ offending.
“She said, “I lost my childhood,”.
“I feel so much grief, and felt so much shame.
I didn’t understand that I was being groomed, that I was exploited.
I feel robbed of my innocence.
Without the emotional maturity, I did not comprehend that it was not normal, that it was illegal.
She added: “I have not felt brave enough to come forward until recently.
My life has been blighted by this abuse, it’s seeped into everything and I have suffered psychologically for most of my life.
I want David Peers to comprehend and be accountable for what he has done to me.” Alun Williams, defending, said that Peers is a retired man with a good work history as a music teacher.
He made an early guilty plea.
He is also of poor health – having skin cancer which he is due to undergo an operation for next month.
Mr Williams said the defendant is also sorry for his actions.
Judge Timothy Petts, who praised the bravery of the victims in coming forward, sentenced Peers to eight years and four months imprisonment.
