EAST LOTHIAN NURSE FACES JAIL AFTER POLICE FIND THOUSANDS OF HORRIFIC CHILD ABUSE IMAGES
An East Lothian nurse named David Marsh, aged 60, is facing a jail sentence after police conducted a raid on his home and discovered thousands of horrific child abuse images and videos, featuring victims as young as two years old. Marsh had downloaded this disturbing material over a period of six years from apps including Snapchat, WhatsApp, and Kik messenger. During the police investigation, it was also revealed that Marsh possessed several sexualized videos received from a vulnerable 12-year-old autistic girl after establishing contact with her online. Marsh admitted during a police interview to accessing the illicit material but denied having a sexual interest in children. He pleaded guilty to two child abuse offences committed between 2018 and 2024 when he appeared in Edinburgh Sheriff Court. Prosecutor Matthew Miller stated that police raided Marsh's property after tracing a Snapchat account linked to the illicit images in June of the previous year. The officers seized multiple mobile phones and devices, which contained a total of 2,448 indecent images and videos, some classified as Category A, the most severe. The videos had a combined runtime of over four hours and depicted children aged between two and fifteen being sexually abused. Officers also found Snapchat logs showing Marsh's sexual contact with a 12-year-old girl and videos of her engaging in solo sexual activity, which she sent to him. Marsh, who is a father of two and works as a nurse practitioner in a care home, was found guilty of possessing child abuse images from October 2018 to October 2019 and of causing a child under 13 to participate in sexual activities. He also requested and received images of her masturbating. The court agreed to release him on bail and ordered him to be placed on the sex offenders register on an interim basis. Additionally, Marsh's name will be passed to Scottish Ministers for consideration for a future ban from working with children or vulnerable adults.
