DAVID LYNCH FROM KNIGHTSWOOD ADMITS TO HORRIFIC CHILD SEXUAL ASSAULT IN GLASGOW

In a disturbing case that has resurfaced after more than two decades, a man from Knightswood, Glasgow, has pleaded guilty to a heinous sexual assault involving a minor. David Patrick Lynch, aged 60, appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court to admit to a series of disturbing acts committed at his home address during the summer of 1994.

According to court proceedings, Lynch confessed to engaging in lewd and indecent practices with a young girl on one occasion between July 12 and July 20 of that year. The details revealed that Lynch entered the girl’s bedroom while she was sleeping, an act that has been described as both sickening and predatory. The court heard that Lynch climbed into the bed where the child was resting and carried out a sexual assault, an incident that has left a lasting scar on the victim.

Procurator Fiscal Depute Stewart Bell provided a detailed account of the events to the court. He explained that Lynch had entered the bed where the girl was sleeping alongside a woman, presumably her guardian or relative. The girl awoke during the incident, and when questioned by the woman about whether she had 'wet the bed,' she responded negatively. Lynch then interjected, stating, “I’m going to check,” before proceeding with the assault. The depute noted that Lynch ceased his actions of his own accord after a short period.

The girl confided in the woman about what had happened the following morning. When the woman confronted Lynch, he responded with a disturbing apology, claiming, “I’m sorry it was a mistake, I thought it was her (the woman).” This response was met with shock and disgust, and the victim’s distress was compounded by Lynch’s dismissive attitude.

The court was also told that the incident had remained unspoken for nearly 20 years until July 14, 2016, when the victim finally confronted Lynch. During this confrontation, Lynch dismissed her concerns with crude and offensive remarks. The victim, distressed by his response, immediately attacked him. A few days later, she made contact again, this time on a speakerphone call that her partner listened to. When she questioned Lynch about his actions, he again responded with vulgar and dismissive language. Frustrated and upset, she ended the call and ran away. Her partner then picked up the phone and challenged Lynch, who responded with further offensive and deeply personal verbal abuse.

Following these events, the couple reported the matter to Police Scotland. Officers attended Lynch’s residence on August 10, 2016, and spoke with the woman involved in the original incident. She provided a full statement recounting the events from 1994, bringing the case back into the spotlight after many years.

During the court hearing this week, Lynch’s defense lawyer requested bail, citing that Lynch acts as his wife’s carer. However, Sheriff Paul Crozier stated that the court would defer sentencing until social enquiry reports and a Clyde Quay Assessment could be completed. The sheriff emphasized that Lynch would remain on bail for the time being, clarifying that all options remained open for the court’s final decision. Lynch was also informed that he is now subject to the notification requirements under the Sexual Offences Act 2003, with the length of any potential sentence to be determined at a later date.
