EX-COP SENTENCED TO UNPAID WORK FOR ASSAULTING EX-WIFE AND RESTRICTING CHILD'S BREATHING
A former police officer named David Lyall, aged 53, has been found guilty of assaulting his former wife and a minor.
The court determined that Lyall caused his ex-wife’s elbow injury by pushing her into a doorframe sometime between February 1 and 28, 2017, on Constitution Crescent.
Throughout the trial, Lyall denied the accusations, claiming, “That never happened.
It’s a total fabrication.” He was also convicted of an incident on September 12 last year in Dundee, where he pursued a child and used his arms to constrict the child's neck, limiting their airflow.
After the verdict, Lyall appeared before Dundee Sheriff Court for sentencing, backed by social work reports.
His defense representative, Kevin Hampton, indicated that Lyall accepted the court’s ruling and was willing to comply with any additional directives.
Sheriff Alastair Brown highlighted the seriousness of the convictions, recognizing the significant impact on Lyall’s life.
However, instead of sentencing him to prison, the sheriff sentenced Lyall to 300 hours of unpaid work, noting that detention was not the sole appropriate penalty.
