HORLEY PAEDOPHILE DAVID LUCK SENTENCED TO 18 YEARS FOR CAMPAIGN OF RAPE AGAINST CHILDREN
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Horley, a 74-year-old man named David Luck has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term after being found guilty of subjecting a young child to a relentless campaign of sexual abuse. The heinous crimes came to light after years of grooming and manipulation, revealing a pattern of predatory behavior that exploited the vulnerability of a child under the age of 13.Luck’s initial connection with his young victim began during his time as an assistant to a scout leader, a role that he exploited to gain the child's trust. Over a period spanning several years, Luck systematically groomed the child, convincing him that his abusive actions were normal and acceptable. The court heard that the abuse was not a one-time event but occurred on an almost weekly basis, with Luck taking over the child's life in a disturbing manner.
During the sentencing hearing held at Guildford Crown Court on Friday, January 12, Judge Jonathan Black described the extent of Luck’s misconduct. Addressing the defendant via a video link, the judge emphasized that Luck deliberately chose his victim because of his vulnerability, using his position as a scout leader to facilitate the abuse. The judge stated, “You used your role as a scout leader to meet him. You chose him as someone you could abuse because he was vulnerable.”
The court was informed that Luck’s criminal activities came to the attention of law enforcement in July 2016, after the victim, demonstrating remarkable courage, reported that Luck was volunteering at a nursery in Horley. Concerned that other children might also be at risk, the victim disclosed the abuse to the police, prompting an investigation.
In a show of remorse and acceptance of guilt, Luck pleaded guilty to multiple charges on the day his trial was scheduled to commence. These charges included five counts of indecent assault, two counts of indecency with a child, four counts of buggery, and one count of possession of prohibited images of children. His guilty plea spared the court the need for a lengthy trial and led to his sentencing.
Judge Black sentenced David Luck to 18 years in prison, with an additional year on license, reflecting the severity of his crimes and the need for public protection. The case has left a lasting impact on the community of Horley, highlighting the importance of vigilance and the courage of victims in coming forward to seek justice.
