DURHAM MAN DAVID LISHMAN SENTENCED FOR RAPE AND CRIMINAL DAMAGE AT ANNAND ROAD
A man identified as David Lishman, who was convicted of serious criminal offences including rape, harassment, and criminal damage, now faces the prospect of a lengthy prison term.The sentencing hearing took place at Durham Crown Court, where Judge Tom Mitchell issued a stern warning to Lishman about the severity of the punishment he is likely to receive.
David Lishman, aged 33 and residing on Annand Road in Gilesgate, Durham, had previously denied all charges brought against him.
These charges included two counts of rape, harassment that caused the victim to fear violence, and criminal damage to her property.
However, after a five-day trial held in February, the jury found Lishman guilty on all counts.
During the proceedings, Lishman also admitted to criminal damage, further complicating his legal situation.
The court was informed that the sentencing had to be postponed initially due to technical issues that prevented Lishman from participating in the proceedings.
His defense counsel was given time to discuss the case with him privately.
The victim and her mother were present in court to deliver impact statements, describing the profound emotional and psychological toll inflicted by Lishman’s actions.
They recounted how the assault and related offences had shattered her sense of well-being, leaving her anxious, lacking confidence, and suffering from sleep disturbances.
