DAVID KING FLEEING DUNBAR AND PENICUIK AFTER 1996 INDECENT ASSAULT CONVICTION
In December 1996, David King, a man then aged 37, was convicted of a serious sexual assault involving a 12-year-old girl in Penicuik. The incident took place in a private residence within the town, where King was found guilty of inappropriate touching, including placing his hands around the girl and forcibly kissing her. The court proceedings resulted in a fine of £350 at Edinburgh Sheriff Court, but notably, King was not sentenced to imprisonment at that time.Following his conviction, King’s life took a dramatic turn. In 1997, he was compelled to leave his home in Penicuik after a community member disclosed details of his past offenses, causing significant local concern and social repercussions. This revelation prompted King to relocate, seeking to escape the notoriety associated with his criminal record.
Currently residing at Manse View, Innerwick, in the East Lothian area, David King is now 55 years old. Despite his conviction predating 1997, he is not listed on the sex offenders register, as his offense occurred before the register’s implementation in 1997. His current address is known to be in East Lothian, but his past associations with Dunbar and Penicuik remain a significant part of his history. The community continues to remember the incident that led to his fleeing Penicuik, and his case remains a stark reminder of the impact of such offenses on local communities.
