CARE WORKER SEXUALLY ABUSED DEMENTIA SUFFERERS
A care home employee from Kent, who recorded himself sexually abusing elderly women with dementia, has received a 19-year prison sentence.During a court hearing at Canterbury Crown Court on Friday, it was revealed that David Jones deliberately targeted fragile residents under his care in a campaign of repulsive misconduct.
The 53-year-old, residing on South Road in Herne Bay, was discovered last year by a colleague in one resident's room with his trousers down.
An examination of his phone later uncovered extensive evidence of his crimes.
The presiding judge, Simon James, described the conduct as an "extremely severe breach of trust." Jones admitted to multiple charges, including engaging in sexual acts with a person with a mental disorder affecting their ability to choose, sexual acts with a resident with a mental disorder by a care worker, and possessing indecent images of children.
A large collection of photos depicting other potential victims, who have yet to be identified, was also found on his device.
Testimony indicated that one of the women involved was non-verbal and unable to communicate what happened, while her family reported observing signs of trauma such as visible fear, rapid health decline, and even broken bones.
They called on care home managers nationwide to urgently review safeguarding measures to prevent such exploitation of vulnerable residents.
In his sentencing remarks, the judge highlighted Jones' pursuit of a "distorted form of sexual gratification" and acknowledged the significant psychological harm inflicted on the victims.
The families expressed understandable anger and a sense of betrayal following what was described as a devastating betrayal of trust.
