KENT WOMAN JAILED FOR COERCIVE CONTROL AND ABUSE
A woman identified as Tracey Hannington, from Herne Bay, has been convicted of controlling and coercive behavior and causing ABH (Actual Bodily Harm).She admitted to magistrates in Thanet that she was responsible for causing physical harm and engaging in psychological abuse.
Tracey Hannington was sentenced at Canterbury Crown Court and received a jail term of two years in October 2019.
The case involved her husband, Tony Hannington, who survived six years of physical and verbal abuse, including attacks with hammers and knives as well as death threats.
He described the violence, stating: "There was one time when we were in the hallway and she put a knife to the side of my neck and that's when she brought it down.
I thought she was going to stick me in the stomach, so I brought my hand down to protect my stomach and it went in my hand." Tony also reported her coercive behavior, detailing how she controlled who he could speak to, what he could eat, what to wear, and when he could have a shower.
He urged other men in similar situations to seek help and highlighted that coercive behavior became a crime in 2015.
According to the charity ManKind, more than a quarter of domestic abuse victims last year were men, with about 757,000 men experiencing domestic abuse but 49% of them not disclosing it.
