DAVID JONES FROM SYCHDYN JAILED FOR CHILD INDECENCY IMAGES IN CAERNARFON
In November 2017, David Jones, a man residing in Tanybryn, Sychdyn near Mold, was convicted of serious offences related to the possession and creation of indecent images of children.The case came to light after police investigations uncovered disturbing evidence stored on his personal computer equipment.
Jones, aged 36 at the time, was found to have downloaded a significant collection of explicit photographs and videos depicting children as young as 18 months old being subjected to sexual abuse.
The investigation was initiated after authorities received credible information suggesting that Jones was not only possessing such material but also actively uploading indecent images to the internet.
Following this tip-off, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at Jones’s residence in early August.
During the raid, officers seized a laptop and other electronic devices, fully aware that these could contain incriminating evidence.
Jones was cooperative to some extent, acknowledging the presence of indecent material on his devices when questioned by police.
However, he initially refused to answer questions during the interview.
Computer forensic experts examined the seized equipment and discovered over 800 images and videos of child exploitation.
The evidence was overwhelming, and once presented with the findings, Jones admitted to the charges against him, including three counts of making indecent images of children and one count of possession of such images.
At Caernarfon Crown Court, Jones pleaded guilty to all charges.
Prosecutor Ffion Tomos highlighted that Jones, who previously worked for the Essex Fire Service, had engaged in online conversations that revealed a preference for young children.
The court was told that police had received information indicating Jones was actively uploading indecent images to the internet, prompting the raid and subsequent discovery.
During the hearing, Jones’s defense lawyer, Simon Killeen, described his client as a man of previously good character who had now lost his employment due to the charges.
Killeen questioned whether immediate imprisonment was necessary, suggesting that alternative measures might serve the public interest better by allowing tighter control over Jones’s activities.
However, Judge Niclas Parry emphasized the severity of the offences, noting the age and vulnerability of the children depicted and the high volume of images involved.
The judge stated that only a custodial sentence was appropriate given the circumstances.
He acknowledged Jones’s guilty plea and described the case as a tragic situation.
As part of the sentence, Jones was sentenced to 10 months in prison.
Additionally, he was ordered to be subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for ten years, and his details will be recorded on the Sex Offenders Register for the same period.
The court also ordered the forfeiture and destruction of all electronic devices seized during the investigation, including the laptop containing the illicit material.
