MAN JAILED AFTER VIEWING CHILD SEX ABUSE ON A TRAIN
A man observed by a fellow passenger viewing inappropriate images of children on his mobile phone has been sentenced to prison after a probe by the British Transport Police (BTP).David Johnson, aged 35 and residing on Francis Chichester Way in Wandsworth, received a sentence of two years and three months in prison at Inner London Crown Court on Wednesday, April 1.
He admitted to six counts of creating indecent images of minors, two counts of attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child, and arranging or facilitating a child sex offence.
Additionally, Johnson was ordered to comply with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) for ten years and is required to register as a sex offender for the same period.
According to court proceedings, the incident occurred around noon on September 23, 2025, when Johnson travelled on a train from Stafford to London.
A member of the public, sitting behind him, noticed Johnson’s phone screen, which revealed him exchanging messages and playing videos depicting child abuse.
One video showed a young child being harmed, after which Johnson switched to a chat where he was asked about his preferred videos, to which he replied “just kids videos.” Shaken by what he observed, the witness informed his partner and later moved to a different part of the carriage before reporting Johnson via the BTP’s 61016 text service.
BTP officers met the train at London Euston station and arrested Johnson on suspicion of possessing indecent images of children.
A search of Johnson’s belongings led to the seizure of his mobile phone, whose wallpaper contained an indecent image of a child.
During custody, Johnson asked for his phone back to delete some data but provided no comments during police interview.
Further investigation involved searching two addresses linked to Johnson and examining multiple devices.
The seized phone was found to contain nearly 200 indecent images, including 105 in the most severe category A.
Detectives uncovered two chat transcripts; one indicated Johnson was communicating with a girl he believed was 13 and had planned to meet her for sex.
The second involved an older woman, who indicated the same girl was unwell and that Johnson could not meet her.
It was later confirmed that the girl in question did not exist.
While on bail, Johnson’s case was reviewed, and formal charges were approved in December 2025.
