DAVID IGGO FROM KILWINNING JAILED FOR NEARLY 500,000 CHILD INDECENT IMAGES IN IRVINE AND KILWINNING

In a disturbing case that has shocked the local communities of Irvine and Kilwinning, a man identified as David Iggo, aged 58, has been sentenced to over four years in prison after being found in possession of nearly 500,000 indecent images of children. The arrest took place in February 2014, when police officers executed a raid on Iggo’s residence in Kilwinning, a town close to Irvine, and subsequently apprehended him in front of his colleagues at the Scottish Maritime Museum in Irvine.

During the investigation, authorities uncovered a horrifying collection of illegal material stored on Iggo’s devices. The police had initially searched his home following a tip-off, and during the search, Iggo admitted to possessing illegal images. He reportedly told officers, “There’s going to be stuff. I really don’t like talking about it, to be honest,” indicating a level of awareness about the severity of his actions.

Further examination of the seized devices revealed that Iggo had shared some of this material with others. Court reports detailed that some files were tagged with disturbing labels such as “young rape” and “child erotica,” highlighting the depravity of the content. Approximately 22,000 of these images were classified as being at the most severe levels of sexual exploitation and abuse, causing significant concern among law enforcement and child protection agencies.

Following his initial arrest, Iggo was charged with multiple offenses, including downloading indecent images, possessing extreme pornography, and breaching bail conditions. He was released on bail under strict conditions that prohibited him from accessing the internet or possessing any devices capable of online connectivity. Despite these restrictions, police from a specialized sex offender monitoring team later visited his home and discovered a laptop computer. Iggo, upon seeing the officers, reportedly said, “I may as well tell you now, they’ll find more images like they found last time,” indicating his awareness of ongoing illegal activity.

Forensic analysis of the devices uncovered additional illegal images and web searches. The searches included phrases such as “prison sentences for child porn,” “sex offender treatment in prison,” and “file erase software,” suggesting attempts to conceal or erase evidence of his activities. These findings confirmed that Iggo had been actively downloading and viewing illegal material over a period spanning from November 2010 to November 2013.

As a consequence of his actions, Iggo was sentenced at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court to 50 months in prison. Additionally, he was ordered to be placed on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely, reflecting the gravity of his offenses. The court also mandated that he would be subject to monitoring for 18 months following his release to ensure compliance with legal restrictions and to protect the community from potential harm.

It was also reported that Iggo had lost his employment at the Scottish Maritime Museum as a result of his criminal activities. His case has drawn widespread condemnation, highlighting the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat the distribution and possession of child exploitation material and to safeguard vulnerable children from abuse.
