DRUNKEN BOXER EXPOSES HIMSELF TO SCHOOL KIDS IN ILKLEY
An individual who exposed himself while intoxicated in front of frightened children has been ordered not to come within 50 meters of any school during certain times of the day.Last September, pupils exiting schools in Ilkley encountered the intoxicated former boxer David Henderson on Brook Street.
Bradford Crown Court was told that Henderson, aged 62, was severely drunk by 3pm.
Judge Simon Eckersley described the state as "an absolute disgrace" and stated, "Seeing you in such a condition was already concerning.
What you did afterward was an outrage and very troubling.
Your intoxication and lack of memory do not justify or mitigate your actions; in fact, they worsen the situation." Prosecutor Lauren Smith explained that Henderson's trousers had fallen down, and he inappropriately rubbed his genitals over his underwear.
He then pulled down his underpants, exposing himself and shouting, "Come on girls and boys." Three teenage witnesses expressed their shock and concern over his behavior.
Henderson, who had no criminal record for sexual offenses, was arrested shortly after and told police he could not remember the incident.
He accepted that his conduct was disgraceful but denied any sexual intent.
Henderson, who has been held in custody since last year, pleaded guilty to indecent exposure.
His sentencing ordered him to complete a 12-month community order, perform 60 hours of unpaid work, and undergo a six-month alcohol treatment program.
Additionally, a five-year sexual harm prevention order was imposed, preventing Henderson from approaching within 50 meters of a school between 7am-9am and 2pm-4pm.
He is also mandated to register as a sex offender for five years.
A psychiatric report indicated that his behavior was influenced by brain injuries resulting from boxing and an axe attack.
Judge Eckersley remarked that Henderson had already served the equivalent of eight months in jail following his arrest.
