COLIN HARESIGN FROM ILKLEY SENTENCED TO NINE YEARS FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF YOUNG BOY IN BRADFORD DISTRICT
In a case that has shocked the local community, Colin Haresign, a 49-year-old man from Rombalds View in Ilkley, has been sentenced to nine years in prison for the sexual abuse of a young boy, offenses that occurred over three decades ago.The crimes took place in the Bradford district during the 1980s, when Haresign was approximately 15 years old.
According to court proceedings, Haresign was convicted by a jury of one count of indecent assault and two counts of buggery.
The court heard that during the time of the offenses, Haresign engaged in disturbing acts against the young victim, including dressing him in women’s underwear and subjecting him to sexual acts.
The court was informed that these offenses were committed when Haresign was still a teenager, and the abuse was carried out over a period of time in the Bradford area.
The court detailed that on at least two occasions, Haresign forced the young boy to wear women’s underwear before engaging in sexual acts, including buggery.
The judge, His Honour Judge David Hatton QC, emphasized that Haresign had not committed any similar offenses since then, but nonetheless sentenced him to a significant prison term.
The judge clarified that Haresign would not be eligible for automatic release at the halfway point of his sentence, meaning he could remain incarcerated for the full nine years if deemed necessary.
Furthermore, the Parole Board will have the authority to decide when Haresign is eligible for release.
Upon release, he will be subject to an extended license period of 12 months, during which he will be closely monitored.
Additionally, Haresign is required to sign the sex offender register indefinitely, ensuring ongoing oversight of his activities and compliance with legal restrictions.
This case highlights the long-lasting impact of historical abuse and the ongoing efforts of the justice system to hold offenders accountable, regardless of the time elapsed since the crimes were committed.
