DANGEROUS PERTHSHIRE DOMESTIC ABUSER DAVID GREENAWAY SENTENCED FOR YEARS OF VIOLENCE

A deeply troubling case of domestic abuse involving a man from Perthshire has culminated in a significant prison sentence, highlighting a long history of violence against multiple women in the region.

David Greenaway, aged 39, has been found guilty of numerous serious charges related to domestic abuse spanning over two decades, from 1999 to 2021. His criminal behavior was documented through a series of violent incidents that demonstrated a disturbing pattern of escalating violence against women in Perthshire and Fife.

One of the earliest recorded acts of violence occurred in 1999, when Greenaway assaulted an ex-partner in Cardenden, an incident that marked the beginning of his long history of abusive behavior. Over the years, his actions grew increasingly severe and frequent.

In 2006, Greenaway was incarcerated at HMP Perth. During this period, he committed a particularly violent act against his then-pregnant partner in Aberfeldy, where he forcibly pulled a chair from beneath her, causing her to fall. He then violently threw her against a wall, resulting in serious injuries that required medical attention.

Further incidents include a disturbing episode in December 2011 at Kinloch Rannoch, where Greenaway's aggression was on full display. He shouted and swore at a woman, and in a violent outburst, he lifted a sofa that had a child on it and threw objects at her, including a knife. This assault left the victim injured and traumatized.

Greenaway's violence did not subside, and in 2015, he physically assaulted a woman in Perthshire, punching her and causing her harm. His abusive conduct continued into the Fife region between 2019 and April 2021, where he engaged in a relentless campaign of control and violence against another woman. His actions included accusations of infidelity, repeated punching, throwing objects such as a suitcase, and controlling her movements.

The violence escalated further, with reports of him dragging her by the hair, slapping, punching, striking her against walls, and kicking her. These assaults resulted in severe injuries, including a fractured cheekbone. The court heard that his violent episodes caused significant physical harm and emotional trauma to his victims.

Greenaway’s criminal conduct was brought before Lord Beckett, who sentenced him to three years and nine months in prison. The sentence was backdated to May of the previous year, reflecting the court’s recognition of the ongoing nature of his offenses. Additionally, the judge imposed a supervision order for 12 months following his release to monitor his behavior.

The court emphasized Greenaway’s pattern of increasing domestic violence, noting that one victim required hospital treatment for a dislocated shoulder, while another suffered a fractured cheekbone. To prevent further harm, non-harassment orders were issued, prohibiting him from approaching or communicating with two of his victims. One of these orders was set for an indefinite period, and the other for four years.

This case underscores the serious and persistent nature of Greenaway’s abusive conduct, and the court’s decision aims to protect victims and prevent further violence in the Perthshire and Fife communities.
